It’s cold already. Not even every leaf is down. There can be songs that remind us of that. Songs that remind us of the beginnings of things.
Aaron Copland – Appalachian Spring Full Orchestra
It’s not spring. But it is this. Copland’s movement for full orchestra screams “beginning.” Works for fall too. Maple sap rising and falling means not only that the summer has ended, but that Fall has begun. Fall is as good as summer.
Sigur Rós – Dauðalogn
For fall, I’d like to have a song that feels vulnerable and blooming. Like a flower, and you can smell it’s sweetness. Famous choral group The Sixteen sing on this.
Jean Sibelius – Valse Triste
Nothing like a little Finnish music to open the next six months of wind, rain, sleet, snow, fires and wine.
Guns N’ Roses – November Rain
Whatever.
Jean Sibelius – Finlandia
More Sibelius. It’s fall.
